Cage, s/y Estelle (FIN-2040)
Belated report, shortly.
Wind SE, from 4 m/s in the beginning to 1 m/s in the end. Shifty conditions, lulls.
First start was awful as we didn't manage to squeeze between F31.7 fleet and RC vessel - had to tack and gybe close to RC vessel, started pretty late in disturbed airs behind the whole fleet. After start took right side of the course as it looked windier and apparently was cleaner. Carefully working with shifts we were able to close distance to the fleet, but no cigar.
Second start was OK, we started closer to the pin and soon tacked to PORT and crossed in the middle of the fleet. Right side of the course felt better again, but that was evidently a wrong feeling - all boats which sailed closer to the left side gained significant advantage. Estelle which was way behind because of penalty (saw no details of the rules infringement) was able to come to the upwind mark a lot faster. When we were pretty close to the upwind mark somebody just turned off the wind - it felt really like somebody turned a switch. First it was a lull, then we figured out it was a suspiciously long lull, then we realized it was not a lull. It took ages to sail to upwind mark and then down to finish. I was surprised RC vessel was still there...
