70 dB should be as loud as vacuum cleaner.
I was considering buying this, but decided to fix my Wallas 2000, since I like it quiet while sleeping. Got it working, but since ignition coil timer is toast, I will have to connect it to manual pressure switch. I have not yet tested it on the boat, but it seems that it puts out very little heat. Might it be because I did not have chimney cap (since I tested it in home) and more hot air could escape because of that?

70 dB is considered to be the upper end of normal conversation. Not too bad. We have our heater built into the engine compartment, so the most sound is generated from the rushing of air out of the nozzle.

I don't know Wallas (anymore), but you might be on to something regarding the heater needing some kind of backpressure.

In case you can get an old heater to work, then I would say it's probably the best option as it's going to save a lot of money. The heater that came with our boat was very old (Thermo 1300) and didn't say a thing when I tried to start it, so we went for a new one. I chose Webasto as I considered it to be the fastest way to dry the boat after races. If I would choose now, I would probably go for a Safire or Wallas or similar as they consume less power, are more silent and can be run on low heating for long times e.g. when cruising. Still, if main use is to quickly dry up the boat, then Webasto and similar are probably a good choice, but for cruising purposes (which is when we mostly use the heater anyway) I would go for Wallas/Safire etc.
